Multimodal Transport

Explanation of the concept of multimodal transport from the Polish carrier Speed Truck

Multimodal transport is, in short, a combination of two or more modes of transport to facilitate the movement of cargo. This process is designed to speed up and increase efficiency.

In a multimodal transport process, there is more than one type of vehicle that is necessary to get the goods to their destination. It is a deliberate combination of the use of trains, trucks, ships, airplanes or other means of transport delivery.

Advantages of multimodal transport

The advantage of multimodal transport is the most efficient combination of several modes of transport, while optimizing terms. This allows you to significantly reduce warehouse costs, thus minimizing the impact on the final cost of the goods. The combination of these factors also ensures minimization of environmental impacts. Because properly organized multimodal transport reduces the negative impact of transport on the natural environment.

Multimodal transport services are also characterized by the centralization of responsibility in one transport company. An additional intangible asset is the experience of companies from the TSL industry (Transport, Forwarding Logistics), which minimize bureaucracy. It also allows the efficient use of available infrastructure and more efficient means of transport. Thus reducing direct and indirect costs (e.g. human resources).

In summary, for more complex transports or for a more detailed examination of the quality / price ratio, multimodal transport is a good, often the only option. Especially for deliveries to and from countries that do not border the sea.
